Lake Leota
In September 1900, William Stevens bought the mill pond. Stevens, who was Evansville's mayor, promised that he would repair the dam and preserve Lake Leota. However, Stevens had no interest in operating a mill and when he could not find anyone to rent and maintain the mill property, he lost interest in preserving the lake. Today, Lake Leota is part of a community park system. It's a great place to fish, has a good picnic area, and has a lot of great playgrounds. Also, Lake Leota has been restored to its orignal shape in the year of 2005.
